Spring 2011 Newsletter

Dear Producers,

The end of 2010 and the begining of 2011 have been interesting to say the least. It is these times that have made me feel especially fortunate that I am in agriculture, where something is actually produced to feed people. The GeneNet program is still the number one alliance to market your high quality finished cattle. We have harvested over 1,250,000 head through the GeneNet program that have averaged $20.17 per head over the average price while the top 25% have averaged $51.35. Thanks to JBS and our exclusive carcass merit Grid, a total of $25,000,000 in premiums has been returned to our customers. That is what the GeneNet program is about-- getting premiums to producers with high quality cattle, while getting information back to those producers to increase the premium for next year. We can get your complete carcass data with Rib Eye and Marbling scores if you would like.

Age Verification: GeneNet was the first alliance to get age and source verified premiums to our customers and we continue to do that. The premiums paid in 2010 and 2011 from week to week varied from $15 to $50/head in addition to all the Grid premiums plus CAB. We will get you a competitive premium each week. It is well worth your time and effort to get your calves Age & Source Verified. If you are interested in getting your cattle age verified give me a call and I will help you find a quick and easy way to get it done.

Forward Contracting: Forward contracting is still a viable option for the GeneNet program. Many producers are taking advantage of this option and were able to lock in a high start price. As the futures board changes, don't hesitate to call and see where you can lock in your cattle. GeneNet is one of the few alliances that has a forward pricing mechanism and still allows the producer to receive premiums on the grid for their cattle.

JBS Wants High Quality Cattle: The folks at JBS have emphasized to me over and over that they want high quality cattle for their customers. Their customer base is generally regional retailers that focus on providing the consumer with an exceptional eating experience. This is why our grid is driven by the highest premiums in the country for traits like CAB, Prime and Choice. We even have a premium for non-black hided cattle that make CAB carcass specks, so your colored cattle will work also.

Nobody knows what the future will bring, but we do know people have to eat and it doesn't get any better than eating a high quailty steak. Give me a call and let Gene-Net get you the best price for your high quaity cattle-- and the information you need to make them even better the next year.

Best Regards,
